Victoria Zanconato
Victoria Zanconato is a multidisciplinary artist based in the UK. In her artistic practice she addresses themes concerned with the mimetic energy exchange of bodies and their environments, exploring ideas around colour and mimesis. Favouring processes that remain open and porous to chance through experimentation and allowing work to emerge through through different kinds of exchanges with the idea to make work that somehow re-sensitises us to this mimetic drive that impels us to copy, imitate and seek resemblance and correspondences. Her work is concerned with re-connecting to the idea of reading before language or where language is in someway re-routed back into the body. Interested with how we are connected not only to other bodies but also to fossils and in particular shells and in the idea that the human body might in some sense reverberate with old models of forms, and how these might in some way live in us at a kind of hidden or dormant under or inner-side of life, a kind memory or habit of form that resonates and echoes within us.
Her interest in practices of wrapping has lead to her to think about concepts of healing and protection, secrecy and power, concealing and revealing and the dialectics of what is hidden and what is manifest, specifically thinking about how there might be images latent within an image itself just as shells are in a way dormant within a human body and its organs and experimenting with how an image might grow or exude from an image itself through the metamorphic medium of colour.
She was an artist in residence at Córtex Frontal, Arraiolos, Portugal in 2025, Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris in 2023 and Culterim, Berlin in 2022. She has worked as a Production Co-ordinator for HOUSE/Brighton Festival/Yinka Shonibare studio in Brighton, UK.
